Welcome to Part 4 of the Simply Droid Complete Guide to Motorola Droid: Tips and Tricks.
For the following tips use the pictures below to help you find certain areas of your Droid phone.
The Applications Tab:
How to set up Yahoo! IMAP email:
–This does not require Yahoo! Plus Mail, the paid service of Yahoo! mail.
1. From the home screen, touch the applications tab (at the bottom of the screen)
2. Touch Email
3. Touch Manual Setup at the bottom left corner
- Select the IMAP option
4. In the incoming server settings, enter the details as follows:
Username: XXXX@yahoo.com (enter your complete yahoo email address)
Password: enter your yahoo password
IMAP Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 143
Security Type: None
IMAP Path Prefix: leave blank
5. Touch next to continue to SMTP Server Settings and enter the details as follows:
SMTP: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 587
Security Type: None (Checkmark “required sign-in”)
Username: XXXX@yahoo.com (enter your complete yahoo email address again)
Password: enter your yahoo email password again
6. Touch Next
7. Fill out your personal information (Name etc.)
–If you are having problems be sure that WiFi is OFF then try again
How to set up Hotmail POP3:
1. From the home screen, touch the applications tab (at the bottom of the screen)
2. Touch Mail
3. Touch Manual Setup at the bottom left corner
4. In the incoming server settings, enter the details as follows:
Username: XXXX@hotmail.com (enter your complete hotmail address)
Password: enter your hotmail password
POP3 server: pop3.live.com
Port: 995
Security type: SSL
5. Touch Next to continue to SMTP Server Settings and enter the details as follows:
SMTP server: smtp.live.com
Port: 587
Security type: TLS
–Check mark “Require sign-in”
Username: XXXX@hotmail.com (enter your complete hotmail address again)
Password: enter your hotmail password again
6. Touch Next
7. Fill out your personal information (Name etc.)
–If you are having problems be sure that WiFi is OFF then try again
How to tether via USB:
Required software:
USB Tether Software: http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
USB Driver: Motorola USB Driver
Disclaimer: Please read your terms of agreement with your wireless provider prior to tethering your phone.
1. Install the PDANet software from June Fabris (see above). It will install the USB driver, if not, use the USB driver link above to install.
2. Connect your phone to the compuer via the USB cable
3. Launch the PDANet software on your phone from the applications tab
4. Click on “Turn PdaNet On”
5. On your PC go to the taskbar, right click the PDANet software and select Connect

I am having this PRECISE problem – I had my first Droid for 3 weeks and set up my yahoo email with no problems. Received my replacement Droid in the mail and it will NOT go through the yahoo mail setup! Wi-Fi is off and it won’t work…restarted my phone and it wont work. Help! I need my yahoo mail!
Don’t listen to yahoo/verizon about the need to upgrade your yahoo account. I have an upgraded account (hated the ads) and I am having the same problems as everyone else. Don’t pay for the upgrade unless you want some of those features.
Has anyone actually had better luck keeping an upgraded yahoo account installed (imap’d) on the moto droid?
I have 7 days before I have to make the dreaded keep/return decision and this is a showstopper for me.

I have had my Motorola Droid for about 2 weeks and I use AT&T/Yahoo as my primary email account. In the last few days I started getting duplicate emails and I was unable to send emails with the AT&T account. I was getting “Connection Error” when trying to send emails. I made sure WiFi was disabled, deleted the AT&T/Yahoo account then setup it up again. Now I can send and receive emails. I think the problem may have started when I had WiFi on and tried to send an email
I have DSL Thru Att, I use the email Account associated with att, When I set it up on my Droid phone, it would recieve but not send, ( error Conection), I talked to both ATT and verizion. ATT Didnt want to help at all, Verizion jumped thru hopps tring to help, we Discovered we could set up a Free yahoo Acount , Send and Recieve with no problems. I also could send and recieve with a google gmail Account. But with my yahho/att account I always get an error when sending. also as soon as try to send from the phone I also get email from ATT stating error 553 saying that i have to verify my email before I can send, but when i try to verify the email with my phone , it says: its already verified, The problems seems to be with ATT/yahoo. they have some kind of block preventing people from using email Account from mutiple devices.
Att Would not help me…. Jerks
2 nd Try I deleted the account from my Phone, created a ne account with the following settings
pop.att.yahoo.com ” yes I left off the 3″

smtp.att.yahoo.com
Security SSL
Port 465
Everything worked great,,,maybe they are not jerks
How do I get to my IM’s? I have a few but not sure how to get to them. I can send though

OMG thank you so much for this I had to replace my eris a week ago and I couldnt remember how to set up yahoo again and it was driving me nuts! you are a life saver. I do have to say that once i got all the info entered correctly and hit next on the last screen a thing popped up saying that it could not connect to the server i hit continue anyway and it still set up. thanks again!!
I was really disappointed when I heard I wasn’t going to get my yahoo reminders. Ta-Da!!! After 16 tries I finally got it. Well worth it.

This one worked for the ATT yahoo via DSL
Tip
type in the full e-mail address for the username
also
type in the smtp when you type the smtp.att.yahoo.com (i was leaving it off and kept getting an error)
how do i remove app links from the home screen without deleteing the app?

These are really good…now if somebody could only figure out a way to have the Droid recognize that email is in my Junk Folder and not sync it – I would be thrilled!

Has anyone figured out to delete multiple emails, texts etc. Say I wish to empty my entire deleted email folder at once instead of one at a time.

It says Unable to open connection to server after i set up the outgoing server settings, I've looked over what i've typed over and over again and it's all word for word what you said to type (other then user and pass of course)

How do you recover something you accidentally sent to your trash on your Droid 2??
How do you put all your alarms, notifications sounds, ringtones, etc. (Except my actual music which is never an alert sound) into a file so that the volume can be adjusted easily?
I have used a couple sound/profile managers but unless you know this one is an MP3 files and that one falls under ringtones; the phone is all over the ‘volume board’.
Either I can’t hear an calendar notification or they go off at 5:00 am and wake up the whole house.
Some stuff was on my phone so its always in my Android options for that particular notification sound. However, some also came from Zedge, and I also put some sounds from a Blackberry program I bought a couple years ago called RCP Ringtones.
