Multiple Android Phones Getting Software Updates Next Year

One of the big advantages of the Motorola Droid over the other Android phones is the fact that it’s running Android 2.0. It looks like some of the other phones could be catching up next year. HTC has confirmed that the Hero will get some 2.0 loving next year. Here’s the exact qoute from HTC:
“Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero.”
That’s not all for HTC though. Verizon has officially announced that it will be bringing the Droid Eris to a newer build of Android and will be integrated with Google Maps Navigation in the first quarter of 2010. Since Google Maps Navigation only requires Android 1.6, this doesn’t give us much insight to the release of Android that the Eris will be receiving. Regardless, this will be a welcomed update to Eris oweners.

Sprint customers are not left out either…Yesterday Sprint announced that it’s HTC Hero and Samsung Moment will be receiving Android 2.0 in the first half of 2010.

Now the question is whether or not the Motorola Droid will stay ahead of the pack or if over time most the phones will be on the same playing field?
