Droid Does Google Earth

This past week Verizon Motorola Droid users finally received the long awaited Android 2.1 update. With the update came some goodies like live wallpaper, pinch-to-zoom and voice-to-text. It also meant the recently released Google Earth for Android could now run on the Droid.
Nexus One owners have been enjoying Google Earth for about a month and the feedback has been positive. According to the Google LatLong blog Google Earth for Android requires floating-point acceleration hardware to run that is why it is only available for devices that run Android 2.1+.
Google Earth for Android has many of the same features as its desktop counterpart. You can view 3d imagery, browse terrain and navigate the globe using voice commands. Also the built-in layers function lets you view roads, businesses, panoramio views, Wikipedia facts and more.
Google Earth is available now for Droid users running 2.1. You can download it by searching for Google Earth in the Android Market or by visiting m.google.com/earth from your phone’s browser.
