Create a Directions Shortcut from Android’s Home Screen
By Brady on Dec 15, 2009 with 2
Here’s a neat little trick in case you did not know it. You can create a shortcut on your homescreen that will give you directions in your Google Maps Navigation. This makes it a lot more convenient than trying to type an address into your phone while driving.
To create the shortcut - simply long press on your home screen, select Shortcuts, then scroll down to directions. You will then need to enter an address, which can be as specific as (1455 Main st, City, State) or generic (Burger King or Target). Choose the car for driving directions and make sure that “Turn by Turn Navigation” is check marked.
This is a great way to make shortcuts to all of your favorite hotspots. Don’t forget to make a folder on your homescreen to keep all of your shortcuts in!

Can you tell me how to remove shortcuts from my home screen? Some have mysteriously appeared there, including a contact who is inadvertently called. Thank you, lots of info here, much appreciated!
Rhodes,
Simply touch and hold on a shortcut, then a trashcan icon will appear at the bottom. Just drag the shortcut to the icon.
