Sirius XM Android App Coming in May

Perhaps Sirius XM was saving the best for last? Yes it did take awhile but Sirius XM will finally release an Android app this coming May. The application will be similar to what you see on the BlackBerry and the iPhone. It will be a free to download and the app will come with a free 7-day trial of Sirius XM’s premium online service. Android users will have access to over 120 channels from Sirius XM’s lineup including hot sports talk and commercial free music.
From the press release:
“SIRIUS XM will make it easy and convenient for DROID and Nexus One users to access our superior programming and exclusive content that they can’t get anywhere else,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SIRIUS XM Radio. “We are happy to add the DROID and Nexus One to our growing portfolio of Apps for smartphones that bring subscribers the best in mobile audio entertainment.”
At this point it appears that the Sirius XM Android app will only be available for the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One. It could be that they plan to release the app to phones running Android 2.1 but this hasn’t been clarified yet. It would be hard to imagine this type of application wouldn’t be available for the newly released Droid Incredible. As for the service there really isn’t anything bad you can say about Sirius XM but it would be nice if you could have access to all their services for just one fee.
