Android Up To 20,000 Apps

One of the big knocks on Android compared to the iPhone (especially from Apple Fanboys) is that the iPhone has such a big lead on the amount of apps available. You know…”there’s an app for that”. Even though you can argue that its more about quality than quantity. You can have 1 Million apps but that doesn’t mean anything is 99% of those are crap. Regardless, Android is starting to close the gap on the amount of apps available.
Mashable reports that Android has hits 20,000 apps in their app store (Apple just hit 100K last month). According to the article 14% of the Android apps are games, but its rather even between all of the other apps.
“30 percent of apps have been downloaded fewer than 50 times. Only a very small percentage of apps have been downloaded more than 250,000 times, which might indicate that creating a “hit†application for the Android Market requires more nuance than for the iPhone.”
This statement seems to echo my quantity vs quality statement earlier in the article. While the iPhone is probably still the best and most popular phone out, its nice to see that Android is evening the playing field.
