Android Gains 200% Popularity Over Last 3 Months

The amount of Android usage has increased substantially over the last few months, especially since the launch of the Motorola Droid. According to statistics from a ChangeWave report, Google’s Android operating system has has a staggering increase in usage. The amount of users who say Android is their OS of choice has jumped up 15% from Sep 09 to Dec 09. You can see the numbers in the charts below:
ChangeWave’s report was conducted Dec 9-14 and included 4,000 consumers. The data shows that Google’s Android system is becoming a major player in the smartphone world.
The Motorola Droid is the biggest reason for the jump in numbers which the Nexus One of course starting to make an impact. With all the great phones running Android that are coming out in 2010, these numbers are only going to increase.
Just three months ago Android was tied for last in consumer preference in mobile operating systems. Since that time it has jumped up second place, only behind the Apple iPhone which is at 28% (down 4% from that time). This growth in Android popularity is directly benefiting Motorola along with HTC. Since September Motorola’s future buying has increased 12% which is the company’s first increase in three years. HTC also increased 4% during that same time frame.
I can’t wait to see what these numbers look like in the next survey. At that point the Nexus One will have been on the market awhile along with the other great Android phones coming in the near future. 2010 is going be a good year for Android.
